On the 12th of March, the 95th Oscar ceremony took place in Los Angeles. This event has always been known for scandals that broke out among the participants. But this year it seems to be too controversial.

The winner of 95th ceremony appeared to become a film with the title “Navalny”, which is a documentary about the “so-called” Russian leader of opposition Aleksei Navalny. He is now-an imprisoned politician and an anti-corruption campaigner. However, Navalny is also known for making racist and xenophobic statements. He also claimed that Crimea is now Russian and should not become a part of Ukraine in the future. "Crimea is what, a sandwich with sausage to be returned here and there?," Navalny once said. In general, he tends to have common ideologies with Putin over a range of topics.

Ukrainian people were shocked with the results of jury. While the wife of Navalny is “suffering” by standing in a gorgeous dress at the stage of the world’s most famous movie competition, thousands of Ukrainian soldiers are freezing in the trenches while fighting for their lives.

Mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadoviy, stated that Navalny is just another form of Russian propaganda and that world should be blind to make such a decision. He believes that the figure of Aleksei was designed to show to West that there still exists opposition in Russia. It looks like it worked and the Oscar’s statue in the hands of Navalny’s wife is a proof of that.

Alongside with Russian documentary, there was a Ukrainian movie called “A House Made of Spinners” running for the victory. That is a film about children from an asylum in Donetsk, which is being bombed through Russia from the 2014. At the end of the day, some are convinced one more time that cultural events are enormously politically oriented and people should be really critical about everything that happens in the world.
